I too wondered about a Fiat Spider and it is possible since a Mialfa would compete with Alfa's other offerings.
I know rear drive is a selling point but wouldn't a FWD spider with the 500 engine, coachbuilt body and 40 mpg get some attention.
My Miata and Spider have been looking at each other.

Cheers

Im very happy to see Alfa return to the US (not labled a dodge), I loved my GTV's.
The artical indicates that the new car will be based on the MX-5 platform, and thats a good place to start.
I hope the Alfa will retain its iconic grill and styling ques, and will somehow slip their v6 under the hood.
and RWD to boot ! (a real drives car!)

the best news of all, is that its actually targeting the American market!
for years we have not seen several good cars here in the states, im not sure what is driving this, but im very hopefull that this is a sign that the wall is falling down.

Ron,
as im sure you are aware, the Fiat Barchett is FWD, and a very handsome car.
I believe would have competed with the Miata well, but like many other good cars, it never made it to the states.

A Pininfarina body atop the wonderful Mazda chassis, would be a winner in my book!Maybe the Italian motor with the slick Miata gearbox? One can only wish. :shift:
