I posted a while back looking for reverse thread lug bolts for my Ghia.I only posted in here and the both spider forums . Monday I received a email to my gmail account someone in the UK with a car being sold off for parts. have emailed back and forth for 2 days and I feel it is a scam tring to get me to send money to him. via western union. he wants me to buy everything at one time but i told him i want to only buy one part for $30 than if all goes well i will send him the rest of the money. i have not heard back since than. not sure why. im not giving any names. I am only posting this to let everyone know there are other people reading our forum and we all need to be carefull before we just send money for parts . now I almost sent the money ,being so happy just to find Ghia parts and I wasnt really thinking during the emails. i was at work and not really paying attention. if it had not been for me being very busy might have been out a few hundred dollars.

if you do not know the person you are buying parts from here are a few steps that may save you

1. KNOW YOUR PART !

2. ask for pictures of the parts off the car.

3. ask for details about the parts

4. when asking details, ask a question you know doesnt ably to the part. (Example; if the part was red tail lights, ask if he is selling the red and yellow tail lights ? )

5. know the adverage selling price of your part

6. if it seems to got to be true it probably is.

7. if something deosnt feel right. usaully your right

8. never give your credit card or checking info to anyone ! always send a money order or use something like paypal

9. try to buy a cheepier part. that way if you loose money it is only for a few dollars not a few hundred or thousand !

now I do not know if this person is on the up and up or a a scam. but it sure doesnt feel right. i am still waiting for my pictures. i will keep you posted. I have a friend lives out of the country who tells me the phone number does look correct for the area. how ever he refuses to give me his house address to send a money order. he keeps giving me reasons to just buy everything at one time as well as keeps trying to get me to use western union. ( scam artist dont want you to have there address, they can use a fake name to claim money at a western union

Mira-trolling scammer warning <PSA>
From: Shaun Folkerts, Eastern PA
Email: FiatLancia2@yahoo.com
Date: Thu Aug 04 10:23 PDT 2011

Just a word of warning to Mira folk out there that there's a (probable) scammer
out there preying on those who post to the "wanted" topic, and perhaps elsewhere
here. If he's not a scammer, then he's both impossibly stupid AND incredibly
unlucky simultaneously; either way, I'm not dumb enough to proceed with anything
he's pitching.

Here's the story. I posted a few weeks ago that I was looking for Anniversary
wheels in the "wanted" topic. I got an email response a couple days ago that was
tailored specifically to me and my request, but had all the signs of a scam. So
I proceeded cautiously. Googling his name plus "Fiat" yielded three arcane
results. Googling his address turned up a UK hotel. Googling his name plus the
address yielded no matches.

Yesterday the guy sent me an email with "bait" prices, and four pics: one of the
front end of "his" car and three close-ups of "his" wheels, plus the tale of how
he won his class at FFO with that car and those wheels. I recognized Jim
Aitken's '74 Spider instantly, but emailed Jim the photos to confirm - and to
tell him of this scam he was unwittingly involved in. He replied instantly that
'yep, those are mine, and those pics were taken in my garage!'

I complimented the scammer on his beautiful black Spider and his win at FFO, and
asked if that was his car and those were the actual wheels he was selling;
questions he conveniently sidestepped in his next response. He then agreed to
throw in free shipping...from England, where he is allegedly located. The
shipping alone on a pair of wheels would likely exceed the price he's asking.

The ONLY method of payment that the seller will take is Western Union (his
PayPal account is sooo inconveniently "down" right now...). So unless IAN
BEECHER is smart enough to check this forum, I think I'll have me some fun with
this - and with him. As he needed a "shipping address," I was tempted to give
him one of the following addresses: 81 Remmacs Way (my own creation), or 1060
West Addison (I hate Illinois nazis). Ultimately I gave him a legitimate local
address (NOT ours, obviously) just in case he was smart enough to check out my
given address in Google.

So at this point, I'm going to see how long I can keep him waiting for his money
at the local Western Union branch.

And "Beecher," if you're reading this, at least you were smart enough to get
THAT right...and allow me to add that I think you're a lowlife a**h*le.
