Italian Clock

Post by JarrodWeaver » Tue Jun 14, 2011 4:01 pm

For some reason the clock on my 500 is losing minutes at a surprising rate. Initially I noticed that it was off and reset it. The same day it was 3 minutes behind and now a month later it is about 8 minutes behind.

Is anyone else having issues with clock accuracy or is this just an Italian thing?

BUt Jarrod, this is a NUE 500, right?

If digital, ahould be an adjustment screw on back (maybe inside case).

Dealer should deal with this at first service.

Jarrod, if it makes you feel any better, mine does as well. At least I noticed it DID one time (was off by 7 minutes or so, slow). I haven't checked to see how far off it is after resetting the time. Shame Fiat didn't get such a small, simple, inexpensive but noticeable detail right the first time. Have an appointment with the dealer (first oil change, software flash, etc.) next week...I'll see if they have any fix for the clocks losing time as well.

Yes, my 500 is a new one. I am hoping that Shaun has good news after his visit to the dealer about a fix. It's really no big deal but should be very easy to get right. Perhaps it was a miscalculation between metric time and American time. Ha.

Yep, same here. Slow clock on my new 500. Seems to be a design defect.

Mine too. I haven't figure out how to reset the thing but the dealer is picking mine up for service today. I'll add it to my list since I'll have their 500 to drive while mine is being serviced.

@Denise Setting the clock is very easy and is one of the things you can do in the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) or better known as the buttons beside the speedo. Press the MENU button and then scroll using the + or - button until you get to "Set Time" you can then use the + and - buttons to move the clock to the right time. Its really pretty simple once you give it a try.

BTW, this can only be done with engine OFF, it seems.

There is a fix to the clock problem. Your dealer can reprogram the PCM or BCM or whatever the computer is that is responsible for the clock. I listed the clock and the slow speedo as concerns on my work order while my car was in for service and I know they were able to reflash the system to fix the slow clock. I'll let you know what they say about the speedo when my car is brought to me later today.

Thanks Denise. I will ask for that on my first service visit too. Let us know how it works.
