I have always used the Mobil 1 products until recently when Castrol priced their full synthetic Edge Titanium 5W30 much cheaper than Mobil.

I have run Royal Purple synthetic oil in my gokart engine for max hp. When you start with 5 hp, you need all the help you can get. The engine looks brand new inside after a season of driving so I'm pleased with the results. This includes engine temps around 460 degrees.....but, I am now testing Mobil 1 Super Synthetic in my engine for the engine builder. It picked up several pounds on the dyno so I'll see if I have any more umph on the straightaways and see what condition the internal engine components will be after a few months. This will help determine what I will use in my Fiat engines.

I had 60's and 70's britich cars that used that technology... then a 98 VW GTI VR6 that had a canister.....
believe it or not, the NEW Chrysler 3.6L V6's use a canister type filter as well. seems to be the wave of the future, or maybe it should be BACK to the future?

as for me, I have no problem with a canister filter. but I AM still undecided on WHEN to change. even using synthetic, I'm still leaning towards changing it every 5K.

last month the OE Fiat Oil Filter had a List Price of over $30.00! beginning in August, Mopar dropped the price to be more in line with their other oil filters.

as of August 1st, List Price for PN 68102241AA is $7.50!!! :D

Hi All,

Just returned from a 2500 mile run in my 500 Sport. Prior to leaving I did my first oil change at 3500 miles. I converted to full synthetic Mobil 1, and I have to tell you that the car ran beautifully. The engine sounded much smoother. I don't know if I was merely experiencing a placebo effect, but I do like the idea of synthetic oil for the high rev Fiat engine. I will try to get some images of the trip up on the FLU site.

Cheers,

Filter? Who needs a filter. I've got an 850 and a 600. We don't need no stinkin' filters. Just spin it around!

Actually the mileage interval is 8000 OR 4000 miles depending on how you drive the car. The oil change indicator comes one 250 - 300 miles before the car needs the change.

BUT, remember, there is still a 6 month MAXIMUM between changes.

As for miles on oil, I come from the BMW world, and BMW went to 9000 mile change interval (or 1 year) back in the 90s with conventional oil. With synthetics, they are as high as 15525, depending on how you drive.

And BTW, BMWs use canister filters. I just wish Fiat had put the filter up at the top of the engine compartment for easier access.
