Inherited 1961 1200 Vetture Speciali

Post by Flopp2 » Wed Apr 01, 2015 10:44 am

I am looking for some information and am grateful for any help or a point in the direction where I can find information.
My parents kept everything they had room for, and they had a lot of access to space. Hence by brother and I have inherited this car that was put in a warehouse in 1975. We have two options: Sell it as is, where it is, or have our back door neighbor junk yard come over and get it. We do have the original title and keys.

I am posting a few pictures. It is covered in 40 years of dirt, but there is no water to wash it off in the warehouse right now.

My question is, is it worth selling, or should we call the neighbor and sell it for scrap?

Thank you so much for your help.

Wow! You should have no problem at all finding a buyer for that one. The #1 concern is always going to be RUST, but yours appears to be much better than average. Two questions:

1) Can we assume that there is an engine under the hood, and that it is complete?

2) The windscreen is either smashed, or covered with major bird poop, hopefully the latter.

First impression, I would think you could easily get $3000+ for it, as is, where is. Other thoughts?

Sadly the windshield is cracked and so is the driver's side window. Yes, there is a complete engine. This was the car my brother drove when he was in high school....back in the late 60's. The parents drove it occasionally after he moved on, and one day just parked it with the other "we may drive it again vehicles".

And would I advertise that just on something like Craigslist? Or is there a better place for a car like this?

Thank you so much for responding.

I am new to the forum so there may be a better way to do this but I just purchased a fiat with hopes of restoring. On the back of the car is an emblem that says fiat 1200 and I think the body number is 118 G 021663. Can anyone give my an idea of how I can determine what the car actually would be? I was told it was a 1967 but what I have seen online looks like it could be older. Any help would be appreciated.
